Emissions

The composition of our air emissions is unique to each PPG facility due to the varying products produced and manufacturing processes used. For all emissions, we are focused on reduction through improved operating practices and, where necessary, emissions control equipment.

Greenhouse Gas Emissions

We are reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions primarily by lowering our energy consumption (see the Energy section).

In 2015, we met in only three years our 2020 goal of reducing our GHG emissions intensity by 1.5 percent per year. The achievement’s underlying factors are the prioritization of energy efficiency throughout our company and a current product portfolio that requires less energy to manufacture compared to our portfolio when the goal was set in 2012.

To ensure we remain focused on minimizing our GHG emissions, we have set a new goal to reduce our GHG intensity by 25 percent by 2020 when compared with 2012 baseline levels.

In 2015, our total GHG emissions intensity decreased 7 percent compared to 2014 and 17 percent compared to the 2012 baseline. Our direct emissions intensity decreased 12 percent compared to 2014, while our indirect emissions intensity held steady.

Intensity data include direct and indirect emissions. We report greenhouse gas as carbon dioxide equivalents, which include carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxide

Air Emissions

In 2015, we again achieved reductions in four key categories of air emissions compared to 2012.
