Engagement Strategy

Our community engagement vision is to bring color and brightness to our communities around the world through community sustainability, employee engagement and education.
Our locations are guided by the PPG Community Engagement Framework, which outlines appropriate programs depending upon the specific needs of each community. In 2015, 65 percent of our facilities met the requirements of the framework, up from 52 percent in 2014. Our goal is 100 percent implementation by 2020.
Under the framework, sites are assigned one of four implementation levels based on their impact in their communities.

Sample Actions


  • Community service encouraged among employees.
  • Joint planning conducted with community emergency services.


Level 1 actions plus:
  • Site leadership must be active in local community organizations.


Level 1 and 2 actions plus:

  • Community engagement responsibilities are assigned.
  • PPG Friends employee volunteer team is formed to support community projects.
  • Relationship is established with local government officials.


Level 1, 2 and 3 actions plus:

  • Community advisory panel is formed.
  • A survey of community needs that could be met by PPG is completed.
  • A report is developed to share with the community.
  • Relationships are established with officials of regional/national governments and key non-governmental organizations.
